Salman Khan made his debut as the main character in Sooraj Barjatya's Maine Pyar Kiya in 1989. Bhagyashree, Reema Lagoo, Mohnish Bahl, Alok Nath, and other actors also feature in the movie. Salman Khan became the superstar he is today thanks to the positive reviews it garnered. But did you know that Piyush Mishra, an actor, was initially a contender for the role?

Numerous Hindi films, such as Gulaal, Gangs of Wasseypur, Tamasha, Rockstar, Maqbool, and others, feature actor Piyush Mishra in leading roles. Mishra disclosed in an interview that he was asked by Sooraj Barjatya's father to portray Prem in Maine Pyar Kiya.

The Maqbool actor revealed, “It wasn’t that I had become a star or I had landed that part. It was an early discussion, and I was majorly considered by Sooraj Barjatya’s father (Raj Kumar Barjatya) He had come to meet me; he didn’t cast me as such. I was in third year when this had happened. It wasn’t that big a deal at all; I don’t know why it was blown out of proportion, that I was just on the brink of becoming a star but then couldn’t.”

Piyush Mishra disclosed in the same interview with a daily that a number of individuals in his immediate vicinity wished for him to take the fall guy position and garner attention for losing it to Salman Khan. According to Piyush, this offer led to a lot of work for him. He thought the actor would have landed the role too soon even if he had accepted the assignment. The Tamasha actor feels he wasn't emotionally, physically, or cognitively prepared for the role. Piyush believes he couldn't have handled the success at age 26.

“Mera dimaag ud jaata (my mind would’ve blown). I would not have been able to handle that kind of stardom, and I accept it. I was not ready for it, so it is good this didn’t happen with me,” told Piyush Mishra.
