While getting ready for the release of his next movie, Animal, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga thought back on how difficult it was to translate Arjun Reddy's story into Hindi as Kabir Singh. He revealed that not everyone agreed with the choice to put Shahid Kapoor in the starring role and stated that he has no plans to undertake another remake. He also disclosed that Ranveer Singh was initially offered the role of Shahid and the reason behind the actor's rejection.

In a recent interview with a media portal, Sandeep Reddy Vanga stated that the process of recreating a film with such a large following is not easy and can even be "painful." He went on to explain that Mumbai was calling him all the time to work on the remake. When it was first suggested to Ranveer Singh, he was interested in working with him. But in the end, Ranveer opted against it since, at the time, he found the material too grim. He told, “First, it was pitched to Ranveer Singh. I wanted to do it with him. But finally, he decided he will not do it, because it was too dark for him at that time."

They sought Shahid for the part of Kabir Singh after Ranveer declined it. Nonetheless, as Sandeep Reddy Vanga pointed out, there were apprehensions and reservations among people. He went on to say that Shahid's track record raised worries because, at the time, none of his solo films had brought in more than Rs 100 crore; the most was Rs 65 crore. It used to be said that Telugu films usually bring in between Rs 55 crore and Rs 65 crore, raising questions about why Shahid was cast for the part.

They thought the box office results would be better if it were Ranveer. Sandeep clarified, nevertheless, that Shahid's talent as an actor has always given him his confidence. He told, “But I was always sure about Shahid; he’s a fantastic actor.”
