On Wednesday, July 3, 2024, veteran actress Smriti Biswas, who appeared in Bengali, Marathi, and Hindi films, passed away. At the age of 100, she passed away in her Nashik, Maharashtra, home. She reportedly suffered from age-related problems, and today, July 4, was her funeral in accordance with Christian customs. Filmmaker Hansal Mehta wished Smriti ji peace and gave a loving homage to her.
 
The director of Shahid, CityLights, and The Buckingham Murders, Hansal Mehta, posted images of Smriti Biswas on Instagram today. The actress was shown in monochrome in one photo, while the others showed her at home in her later years.
 
Mehta thanked everyone in the caption, writing, “Go away in peace and to a happier place dear Smritiji. Thank you for blessing our lives. RIP Smriti Biswas.”
 
As a young performer in the 1930 movie Sandhya, Smriti Biswas made her cinematic debut. She collaborated with well-known directors like Raj Kapoor, Guru Dutt, BR Chopra, Bimal Roy, and others during her 30-year career. She shared the screen with actors Kishore Kumar and Dev Anand, among others.
 
Her remarkable filmography includes some noteworthy films like Jagte Raho, Humsafar, Baap Re Baap, Bhagam Bhag, Chandni Chowk, Sailaab, and Pehla Aadmi.
 
On February 17, 2024, Smriti ji celebrated her 100th birthday. She was wed to SD Narang, a director and producer who made the movies Shehnai and Dilli Ka Thug. In 1986, he passed away. According to reports, Smriti ji gave up performing after getting married. Her two sons, Rajeev and Satyajeet, survive her.
