Sonu Nigam Slams Padma Awards for Overlooking Legendary Singers!
Sonu Nigam, a singer, has voiced his displeasure at the Padma Awards' disregard for legendary artists. He emphasized in a social media post how, in spite of their enduring contributions to music, icons like Sunidhi Chauhan, Alka Yagnik, Shreya Ghoshal, and Kishore Kumar have never been honored.
Sonu Nigam addressed the government on Instagram for failing to recognize great singers and their outstanding musical contributions. He noted that, despite his widespread effect on artists, Kishore Kumar was never given the Padma Shri, although Mohammad Rafi received it.
The musician also emphasized the postmortem nature the awarding. He told, “Awards are being given posthumously too, right?"

Sonu further underlined that vocalists like Alka Yagnik, who has a lengthy and distinguished career, are still not well-known, even among living legends. He added that Shreya Ghoshal, who has demonstrated her talent throughout the years, should also receive recognition.
He also expressed his anger with the lack of attention for such famous voices by pointing out that Sunidhi Chauhan, whose distinctive voice has influenced a whole generation, has also gone unnoticed.
Sonu Nigam also urged his fans to recommend other worthy performers, singers, actresses, and other artists who have not yet received the Padma. He called for action in the video's description, drawing attention to India's underappreciated brilliance.
In 2022, former Indian President Ram Nath Kovind recognized Nigam's noteworthy achievements to the music business by bestowing upon him the Padma Shri.
